Happening's of the Past
The Methodist Church
at Campbellsville was the scene of a birthday party for Mrs. Mary Childress,
Sunday evening from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Well over a hundred friends, relatives,
and neighbors stopped by to wish her a happy 100th birthday. Many left
presents, a money tree filled with $$$$, and best wishes. When asked what she
attributed to her long life, she said "well, I just don't know".
Her son, Lewis, spoke up and said "it was probably those beans,
potatoes, pork chops, and corn bread that did it". Most of you will
remember Miss. Mary from school days, as she worked in the CHS lunch room for
about 11 years. I can still remember that delicious pineapple upside-down
cake she used to make, and how I tried to go back for seconds. I
believe she is the oldest living resident of Campbellsville at this time. She
now resides with her son, Lewis and wife Bunnie who
live on Rose Hill.
I stopped by to see Aunt Mary again on Wednesday, January 30 (her actual birthday) to visit and to bring her a freshly picked bouquet of butter cups. She had a great time at the party and thanks everyone for coming by to see her. George Russell
